Why Is Your Smart Home Wiring So Important?
Enjoy Better Performance and Less Clutter With Expert Installations
Though many smart home devices market their wireless capabilities, the best performance is still accomplished using hardwired solutions. What type of technology are you thinking of adding to your Cass County, MN, home? Most of our clients opt for a combination of security, AV, lighting, and climate control. Each of these requires the right cabling foundation.
A typical high-end smart home will feature low-voltage data cables, signal wires, and coaxial media cables. It’s why, as the scope scales, it’s best to work with a professional and bring them early in the construction process.

Connectivity
The primary reason for our wiring schema is to consolidate all your connected devices. A professional smart home installation could feature over 100 connected endpoints. These go beyond the obvious (speakers, TVs, surveillance cameras) to include light circuits, security sensors, and motorized shades. At that scale, a strict wireless protocol is impossible. There’s simply too much traffic to manage it all.
Hardwired solutions make it easier to get your signal to its designated endpoint more quickly and consistently. What good is a smart light switch if it takes three seconds for the command to go through? Or what good is a security alert if it doesn’t get to you immediately?
And with lakeside homes in Cass County reaching up to 8,000 square feet, wireless signals can’t reach all areas. They’ll need additional access points (all requiring hard-wired connections) to boost the signal from the basement to the pool.
Performance
When you send signals over Wi-Fi, they often have to be compressed to fit within your established network bandwidth. This performance dip is most visible (literally) in your surveillance and AV applications. Those 4K surveillance cameras or displays will often default to HD quality if they don’t have sufficient space on the network.
However, as any audiophile can attest, this extends beyond the network. Digital media, in general, is not as good as physical media. It's why many of our clients still make dedicated listening spaces featuring a turntable and loudspeakers. From HDMI 2.1a to copper cables, we know which cables will deliver the best signal fidelity.
Organization
Smart home wiring should never be approached in a half-hazard way. The first step in any of our installations is gauging our client's needs and then developing wiring plans to meet them. All wires stay hidden in ceilings, walls, or underground (for outdoor applications). They converge in organized AV racks –like the one pictured above– that live in dedicated closets.
There are two primary benefits to this approach. For one, you don’t want your beautiful home cluttered with wires. Instead, all wiring remains hidden from view. Meanwhile, these dedicated racks allow for easier maintenance, upkeep, and future upgrades. With clearly organized racks, you won’t have technicians wasting billable time just trying to find what connects to what.
Every smart home always has this hidden backbone making the magic happen. Our team brings decades of experience installing and maintaining complex technology in luxury homes. To learn more about our smart home wiring services, call us or fill out our contact form.
